What is CLCW?

CLCW is an organization of all women at Christ Lutheran Church. Locally it is affiliated with the Dane County Area Ministry and South Central Synod of Wisconsin and nationally with the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America (ELCA).

Who are its members?

Membership includes all confirmed women (approximately 500) of Christ Lutheran Church. The membership includes a wide range of interests, age, family status and professions.


What is CLCW's purpose?

CLCW sponsors programs and activities to provide opportunities for spiritual growth, for fellowship and for service within Christ Lutheran, the DeForest community and outreach ministries. To fulfill this purpose, the CLCW provides many opportunities for member involvement.

Spiritual Growth


General Bible Studies - Presented by the pastor, these Bible studies provide background material and understanding in the scriptures. Women meet every Tuesday at 9:00 am with Pastor Olson.


Fellowship

Raffle & Bake Sale - On Lutefisk Dinner day, the Friendship room is filled with creative items, delicious baked goods, lively conversation and friendship. This is a day when well over a thousand people of all ages share in fellowship. Proceeds are used for identified church needs, mission ministries, and the Capital Enhancement Project.

Service Opportunities

    There are numerous opportunities for service with CLCW, for more information, please contact the church office:

  • Altar Guild - Preparing for communion and baptism; polishing the brassware adorning the chancel; and caring for and changing the paraments for each liturgical season are among the responsibilities of these women.


  • Funeral Luncheons/Receptions/Special Events - Each year CLCW serve luncheons to families in times of sorrow and joy. Countless hours are spent in planning, food preparation and serving hundreds of guests.


  • Homebound Worship Ministry - Each week, shut-in members have the opportunity to share in the worship of Sunday Service through tape recordings delivered to homes.


  • Jail Chaplaincy - The CLCW supports the continuing ministry to inmates at the Dane County Jail through financial contributions and donations of needed items. Watch the Door Post and bulletins for collection locations and needed items.


  • Kitchen Coordination - When a kitchen serves over 5,000 people each year, it requires a large inventory and a tremendous amount of cleaning and maintenance. Thanks to the CLCW, our kitchen is always ready for the next dinner.


  • Library - Located in the Friendship Room, the library offers a variety of books for study and enjoyment by all members of Christ Lutheran.


  • Quilters - Throughout the year, an average of 200 unique and beautiful quilts for distribution to those in need in the U.S. and around the world. Lutheran World Relief Quilts and The Salvation Army are two major recipients of our work. LWR quilts are sent overseas in the fall and used for covering, shelter and other needs for survival. The Salvation Army uses the quilts in their homeless shelters.


  • Nominating Committee - Three persons selected to present a slate of officer nominees for CLCW leadership.


  • Nurturing God's Children - Monthly mailings to parents of newborns containing helps to teach your baby about God using prayer, songs, visuals and readings.


  • Sunshine - Receiving an unexpected greeting always brings sunshine, even on a cloudy day. This happens when the CLCW sends a greeting card to members at special times.
